They are produced by pneumatic devices the only ones able to nebulize oily based or suspension medicines used for ENT treatments.
These devices are equipped with a sound wave pulsated function. They are called automatic sound wave pulsated aerosol generator and are used to treat ENT pathologies as sinusitis.
The sound wave pulsated function consists in producing a 100 Hz intense sound. This audible low frequency sound is applied at the end of the nebulizer on the aerosol.
The size of the particles, that is to say the aerosol granulometry, remains unchanged.
The 100 Hz sound effect is to modify the diffusion of the aerosol particles during its course inside the nasal fossae and to increase the penetration of the aerosol inside the annex cavities of the nasal fossas as the sinuses. These cavities are normally not accessible by a classical aerosol because they are not ventilated.
The granulometry of the sound wave pulsated aerosol remains low, inferior to 5 µm to ensure the passing inside the chicanes of the sinuses meatus.
The sound emission has to be stopped periodically in order to enable a sedimentation phase of the aerosol in the sinuses.
Caution : the expression sound wave pulsated must not be confused with the word ultrasonic, the two functions have nothing in common.
Sound wave pulsated is used to talk about the aerosol way of diffusion and it is opposed to the word classic : it qualifies the aerosol.
Ultrasonic is used to talk about the aerosol way of production and it is opposed to the word pneumatic : it qualifies the generetor.
